The Narrative

Abridged Profile

Oluwaseun Fakuade is a Nigerian Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Digital Economy, dual-PhD researcher, serial entrepreneur, filmmaker, and musician. He holds an MPA from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (NUS Singapore) and an MPhil in Intelligence and Security Studies. He launched Nigeria’s first public-sector makerspace and Robotics Academy, has built and exited multiple companies, and is the author of three forthcoming books on Nigerian development and democratic reform. His work sits at the intersection of governance, innovation, scholarship, and the creative arts.

Oluwaseun Bamikole Fakuade is a Nigerian public policy leader, researcher, serial entrepreneur, filmmaker, musician, and social innovator whose career is a testament to the power of disciplined versatility. He currently serves as Commissioner for Innovation, Science, and Digital Economy in Ekiti State, Nigeria, where he has designed and implemented forward-looking policies that position the state as an emerging hub for digital innovation, STEM education, and inclusive economic growth.

Through this platform, Fakuade has delivered transformative programmes with national significance: Nigeria’s first public-sector Robotics Academy, which has trained over 600 children in robotics, coding, and creative technology with thousands on the waitlist; the Ekiti State StartUp Garage, Nigeria’s first government-backed makerspace equipped with robotics, 3D printing, and rapid prototyping tools; and the STEAM Bootcamp Foundries that introduced innovation education across primary and secondary schools statewide.

Before his appointment as Commissioner, Fakuade served as Special Adviser on Governance, Reforms and Innovation, and earlier as Senior Special Assistant on Policy, Research and Documentation, where he authored Ekiti State’s 30-year economic development plan and oversaw transformative infrastructure and governance projects. His government career has spanned political strategy, digital transformation, institutional design, and policy architecture, making him a recognised voice on public sector innovation and economic competitiveness in Nigeria.

Academically, Fakuade is pursuing two doctoral degrees simultaneously: a PhD in Strategic Management and Security at Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, where his research focuses on developing an intelligence community fusion system with biometrics infrastructure for national security, introducing his original Adaptive Security Architecture Theory; and a PhD in Public Sector Governance and Administration at Federal University Oye-Ekiti, where he is reimagining Nigeria’s public sector as an entrepreneurial catalyst for innovation.

He holds a Master of Public Administration from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore, where he specialised in clusters, competitiveness, and economic development policy. He also holds a Master of Philosophy in Intelligence and Security Studies from Afe Babalola University, Nigeria.

Fakuade is a serial entrepreneur who has built and exited multiple companies across technology, media, and professional services.

A lifelong creative, Fakuade plays the piano, is a drummer, and a composer and songwriter, and, having directed the choir for more than 14 years, enjoys scoring music and applying his technical skills to developing beautiful symphonies and harmonies. He is currently in pre-production on three short films, including works within an anthology universe that explores Nigerian identity, history, and the human condition.

He is the author of three forthcoming books: Catalytic Statecraft: Nigeria’s Pathway to Prosperity, a landmark work applying Hirschman’s development economics to contemporary Nigerian policy challenges; a book on African history and civilisation; and a work examining democratic reform and institutional design.

Fakuade describes himself as a patriot and voracious reader whose extensive reading habit fundamentally shaped his worldview. He credits his mother, whom he calls his “Rockstar mom,” with building the high agency and resilience that drives his work across so many domains.

His life’s work is animated by a single conviction: that Africa’s renaissance will be built by people who refuse to accept false boundaries between disciplines and who bring the same rigour to governance that they bring to art, scholarship, and enterprise.
